My Mother is a Warrior

This wearable is inspired by Manikarnika who became the queen of Jhansi in 1842 and took on the name Rani Laxmibai. She was known for her courage and rebellion, against not only the British rule but also the patriarchal cultural expectations of women in Indian Society, all the while caring for and protecting her child. This makes me think of my mother and so many out there, who while loving and nurturing (shown by the soft crocheted baby carrier), are warriors with a strong and undying fighting spirit (the hard coiled shield).
