The clutter series consists of miniature sculptures based on real cluttered parts of my room. I rebuilt my entrance, table, cupboard and suitcase area, nightstand, and bed as small, open boxes filled with the same objects that usually pile up there in everyday life.
Making and placing each thing made me look at these objects with more care than I usually do, normally just letting them accumulate in the background. Each sculpture is accompanied with a UV light light switch, and when it’s turned on, invisible writing appears on on the physical mess. The cluttered parts of the room now turn into cluttered parts of my mind, giving space to overthought, usually hidden thoughts about social interactions, memory, health anxiety, and questions about art and purpose.
The bed is the only space that’s neatly made. The thoughts there are calmer and more resolved. Finally, I have navigated my way through all that clutter, and can rest peacefully.
