"What is the purpose of my art?" This question has become more pressing as separation becomes the norm due to the pandemic, geographical, political and social barriers. I believe art is a language for understanding each other and a catalyst for connection in distant times.
Based on this, I created a game where winning requires collaboration. The storyline is based on a joke with my father that I am from the future. This future involves a dystopian society, and I'm sent back in time to prevent 'The Detachment' - a society of isolation and extreme individualism.
The game requires players to close a box by solving clues together through communication and sharing experiences. These clues are inspired by cooperative natural systems like beehives and fungal networks. By connecting with each other, they connect the lid to the box. Winning the game symbolises creating a butterfly effect for a better future.
This game reinforces my belief in art's potential for change and fostering human connection.
