Claim Your Baggage
Date
2024-2025
Materials and Processes
MDF, felt, paper, sewing, laser-cutting and laser-engraving
Based on my airport rage, this work unfolds in three parts: the Rageometer (made out of laser-cut wood), the Suitcases (made of felt and sewn onto paper), and the Claim Your Baggage inking station (also made of laser-cut wood).
I think airports often bring out the worst in us - long lines (that people try to cut), loud strangers, crying babies, and that one person who just won’t put their tray back after security. This piece transforms that shared frustration into playful catharsis.
You can use the Rageometer to measure your anger at each stage of your previous air travel. The next step is inking the “meters” (in the form of zips) and transferring their print onto your felt suitcase. The more open the zips, the more "baggage" you carry, anger that still lingers, wanting to be let out. Closed zips? A smooth trip, nothing left to release. Each print becomes a personal, abstracted travel diary where rage is made tangible and baggage is claimed.
It’s a game, a process, and ultimately, a way to let go.
